November 10, 2016 (Houston, Texas) – On Saturday, December 3, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., children, parents, and families are encouraged to bring their teddy bears, dolls, or other favorite friends to The Health Museum for the annual Teddy Bear Checkup. Santa Claus will be on hand to spread holiday cheer and to help children complete health and wellness checkups on their favorite friends.

The Teddy Bear Checkup is an annual event that allows children to become doctors for a day in order to complete basic medical checkups on their favorite plush toys.

"This event is as much fun as it sounds,” said Dr. Melanie Johnson, president and CEO at The Health Museum. “It’s a great way to introduce our children to the field of medicine and to feed their curiosity. Not to mention, a very fun holiday activity for the entire family."

Checkup stations at The Health Museum will include:

  • Bear Basics – Check your teddy bear’s heartbeat, blood pressure and other vital signs. Don’t forget to make sure your teddy bear has all its shots.
  • Teddy Exam Room – Use real and toy doctor tools to make sure your teddy bear is in tip-top shape.
  • Squeaky Clean – Show your teddy bear how to keep germs away by doing something as simple as washing your hands.
  • Seeing is Believing – Four eyes are better than two. Check out your eyes and your teddy bear’s eyes.

The Teddy Bear Checkup is also a great way to prepare children for what to expect in the doctor’s office. Entry is free with the purchase of a general admission ticket. For additional information about The Health Museum visit thehealthmuseum.org.
