IN PERSON This Summer 2022!

The annual Global Teen Medical Summit is The Health Museum’s flagship program for teens. The Summit was designed to engage, challenge, and inspire the next generation to tackle the health and bioscience challenges that we are facing through collaborative, outside-of-the-box thinking.

2022 Teen Summit: CLIMATE CHANGE
In Fall 2021, a report by the World Health Organization identified climate change as the single biggest health threat to humanity. In this year’s summit, teens will have the opportunity to explore the topic through lively discussions, hands-on experiences and problem-based learning, expanding their awareness and understanding while allowing ample time for socializing with their peers. Throughout the week, they will interface with research institutions, non-profits, and business ventures that are collectively addressing this crisis through a variety of initiatives.

Featured Topics
Sessions will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about environmental science and its global impacts on health. There are also opportunities to interact with speakers and fellow participants through social components and sessions. Topics may include:

  • Climate change and its effects on health, migration and displacement due to natural disasters
  • Environmental and health impacts of fossil fuels
  • Reducing human dependence on non-renewable energy sources
  • The environmental impact on justice, racism and human rights

During the Global Teen Medical Summit students will:

  • Assess and develop viable solutions to real-world medical problems
  • Participate in career readiness skill building and gain exposure to career paths
  • Develop entrepreneurial skills including how to ideate and communicate ideas
  • Gain an increased understanding of project design and the innovation process
  • Improve collaboration skills and cultural competency through interdisciplinary, team-based problem solving

How much time do we have to stop climate change? Do you want to be part of the solution?
This year’s in-person format will consist of daily site visits, speaker sessions, student challenges, and opportunities to socialize with other students in the program. Mandatory sessions will take place Monday – Friday between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.

We have two great options available: (1) students can stay at Rice University dormitories for the week to enhance an already amazing experience, or (2) they can choose to be day students and commute daily. The cost for overnight students is $1850 and day students is $1250. There are a limited number of scholarships available to support students with financial needs. This year’s program is limited to 40 students.
