Five Nights at the Naval and Military Club
One lucky couple will enjoy an exciting five nights in beautiful London, England as guests at the exclusive, members-only private club, the Naval and Military Club. Founded in 1862, it is informally known as the In and Out, a nickname that originated from the carriage gates at the old clubhouse at Piccadilly, which has been carried forward to the magnificent clubhouse at No. 4 St. James Square, in the heart of Mayfair's shopping and restaurant district.
The Clubhouse boasts a fascinating history. Built in 1679 for Anthony Grey, 11th Earl of Kent, it was severely damaged by fire in 1725, where it was recorded that the Prince of Wales hurriedly arrived at the scene in order to restrain a growing mob from looting the building. The home was rebuilt in 1728, in the neo-classical Palladian splendor that it is today. In the early 1900s the second Viscount Waldorf Astor and his wife, Nancy Astor, the first woman to sit in Parliament, occupied the home. The Club purchased the home in 1996. Prince Philip has been an honorary life member of the club since 1947 and served as its President in 1979. Notable members include Ian Fleming and Lawrence of Arabia.
In addition, dinner for two, one evening at London's oldest and most celebrated restaurant, Rules, located in the theater district, is included in the package. Rules, founded over 200 years ago, serves traditional British food at its best. Alcohol and wine excluded.
Your five night stay will include Club accommodations (one room, taxes included) and breakfast daily.
Incidentals and additional services and/or meals at the club are the responsibility of the guest. Reservations must be made at least 60 days in advance and are based upon availability.
