High School youth 15 to 18 are introduced to the museum in the summer months only. To be selected for the team of youth volunteers, teens must fill out an application. Applications are reviewed as they come in and accepted on a rolling admissions basis until the recruitment goals are met.
Summer Discovery Camp Assistant Intern: Applications are closed for summer 2016. Students, ages 16 - 18 (by June 1), have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a dynamic science educator in camps relating to medicine, forensic science, sports and more. Week long camps run from June through August, Monday through Friday. Camp hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each camp requires a youth volunteer to support the needs of our young campers. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for more than one week of service. Youth that have successfully completed the required youth volunteer hours in previous summers are given priority in the selection process.
Summer Youth Volunteers: Applications are closed for summer 2016. Students, ages 15 - 17 (by June 1), begin a relationship with the museum by committing to a 37 hour week of service, Monday through Friday between June and August 2015. A select number of youth volunteers are asked to support the staff in key day-to-day visitor operations and help manage summer field trips. Additional service hours are scheduled on a case by case basis. Summer student volunteers are then invited to become part of our volunteer corps year-round.
There are several opportunities a year for groups to assist with large mailings, stuffing goodie bags or helping with special events. Service organizations are welcome to inquire about episodic volunteer opportunities for groups.
