Home School Series : Wonders of the Human Body


Wonders of the Human Body series are immersive journeys inside your own body. Each month discover another topic: digestive system, respiratory system, immune system, musculoskeletal system and cardiovascular system.

Each series is made of 4 classes exploring in fun and interactive ways different aspects of one body system: how it works, what happens when you're sick, how to stay healthy. All our classes are age level appropriate and bilingual by request.



You have two options: you can register for one or more classes independently or you can register for the entire series.


  • $50 for series of 4 classes
  • $15 per class

Date and Time

  • PK-2 grades: classes will take place on Mondays: 1 pm - 2:15 pm, January - November 2019.
  • 3rd-5th grades: classes will take place on Tuesdays 1 pm - 2:15 pm on January -  November 2019.
  • 6th-12th grades : classes will take place on Tuesdays 3 pm - 4:15 pm in January - November 2019 

January Series 2019 - THE IMMUNE SYSTEM:

PK-2nd Grade: Mondays: 7, 14, 21, 28 - 1:00-2:15 pm

3rd-5th Grade: Tuesdays: 8, 15, 22, 29 - 1:00-2:15 pm

6th-12th Grade: Tuesdays: 8, 15, 22, 29 - 3:00-4:15 pm

  • Class 1: Structure and Function  (Let’s Get Defensive)

What is immunity? The immune system is our body’s defense against foreign invaders. Components, function, types of immune systems cells and the differences between the Immune’s Innate and Adaptive systems

Activities: matching (game) with types of immune cells; label the body.


Class 2: Disease and Dysfunction – Friend or Foe?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

 Every day we come into contact with tiny good or bad microorganisms. How does our body recognize who is friend and who is foe? -How your body defenses know which cells to attack? - Diseases and disorders of the immune system, what are they, who gets them?

 Activities: Germ Factory, put together a timeline of infection and immune response, construct a virus/bacteria.

  • Class 3: Prevention and Wellness – Building up our Defenses                                                                                                         

Ways we can boost and strengthen our immune system so we can live longer and healthier lives. - Is there more than gummy vitamins to keep you healthy, and how vaccines work with our immune system? - Activities: put together a timeline of infection and immune response to show where the vaccine stops the spread of disease.


  • Class 4: Germs, beware!

Now that we’ve learned about how our immune system protects us, let’s make a take home immune response model when a germ enters our body!

Hey, do you know which is the hardest working  muscle in your body? Keep It Ticking!

  • Class 1: Explore the role and functions of the Cardiovascular system.

Listen to the sounds of life, use a stethoscope and hear your own heart. How and what makes the heart work. Why is so important for the blood flow in our body?


  • Class 2: Be able to describe the basic structures and functions of the heart.

What is the size of your heart, what is it made of and where is the exact location of the heart,


  • Class 3: Drum pounding sound in my chest, check your pulse and find your pulse points.

 Let’s follow the blood!  What is a broken heart and diseases and what to do to prevent it. Learn how to keep a healthy strong and happy heart!


  • Class 4: Open up the heart.

Observe a real Heart Dissection Demonstration and build a Heart model to take home!

Join us to explore and learn about one of the most complex and sophisticated organs in your body and the most important of the five senses!


  • Class 1:

Find out what is the cornea, the pupil, the iris, the conjunctiva and the esclera, how they look like and how they help us to see! What are those specs floating in my Eyes?

  • Class 2:

Lets learn about the retina, the cones and rods? Now I see it, now I don’t! Why do I have a blind spot?

  • Class 3:

What are the most common vision problems? What is beneficial and what can be harmful for my eyes?

  • Class 4:

Take part in a cow eye dissection demonstration, see and learn about the real eye parts make your own eye model to take home!

April Series 2019 – THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

Voyage into the most mysterious part of the human body

Something inside your body, it looks like a cauliflower, controls everything for you, what is it, what is it made of?

  • Class 1: Find out about the basic units of the nervous system, how many you may have, what are they and what they do?                                                                                                                             


  • Class 2:How do you remember, what is the memory, why we dream, how you brain works? Let’s make a brain cell!


  • Class 3: The most common ailments of the nervous system and how to do to prevent them?


  • Class 4:  Review the brain facts, observe a sheep brain demonstration, and real human brain. Make your own brain model to take home!

Explore the complexity and simplicity of The Musculoskeletal System. The incredible facts of the muscles and bones!

  • Class 1: ‘Dem bones and muscles” What makes the body move? Do we have more bones or muscles? Are teeth made of bone? Let’s find out!


  • Class 2: The Joint Chiefs of Staff - Bone and muscles at work. Which is the biggest bone and muscle? What Ligaments, tendons and cartilage do?


  • Class 3: Disease and Dysfunction. Honey, I ‘atrophied’ the kids! Could I develop muscle or bone complications? What is Osteoporosis, osteomalacia, polymyositis and muscle wasting disease?



Class 4: A -tendon to the body! Use it or lose it! Get strong and healthy muscles and bones. Let’s make a human scale size skeleton model to take home.

October Series 2019 - THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

Rumbling in my stomach? What are those gurgling, growling noises I hear inside my body? Learn the ins and outs of your GI tract, take a tour through the giant colon, and perform a lab experiment to better understand digestion.

  • Class 3: Diet, Digestion and Dissections - 

Find out about the importance of healthy eating, exercise, and digestion. What is indigestion? Perform an owl pellet dissection and discover what owls eat.

 Put your scientific creativity into action and construct a human scale digestive system.

November Series 2019 - THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Take a Breath and Dive In! Explore the wonders of respiration.

Why did we develop lungs when other animals simply breathe through their skin? Discover and compare how the most surprising respiratory systems evolved. You’ll even learn what your lungs are made of and exactly how they do their job!

  • Class 2: Mouth-breather.

Wheezing, Crackling, Sneezing, Hoarseness! Why does that happen when I’m sick? Breathing is the most vital need. Learn how to keep your lungs healthy and quickly react in life threatening situations.

  • Class 3: Breath-in, breath-out.

Whoosah! It’s time to take a deep breath and relax. Stress and pollution can trigger asthma and allergies. Learn about how air quality impacts the respiratory system.

  • Class 4: Breath taking lung model.

Who will imagine the most realistic lung model of all? Peek inside a real-life synthetic patient and get a glimpse of the human physiology before creating your own model.
