Blue Card General Information:

  • Blue Cards will be signed at the end of each class, if all requirements are completed. Got a partial that you've started with The Health Museum and need requirements signed off? Partial blue Cards will only be signed on the following days: Tuesdays from 10:00am – 4:30 pm or Thursdays from 10:00am – 6:00pm. Or simply mail the blue card to us with proofs of completion, allow two weeks for our staff to review and sign off. We will then return all materials sent to us via mail! Please make sure to fill in all sections of the blue card (except for the chart in the 'Applicant's Section' of the card) before you mail the card to us. Please include postage stamp and return envelope.

What you need to know before you come:

  • All classes take place at The Health Museum – 1515 Hermann Drive Houston, TX 77004. Except for the Swimming and Lifesaving Merit Badges taught at the Gigglin’ Marlin Dive & Swim - 4502 Almeda Drive, Houston TX 77004
  • All scouts are required to wear uniforms during class and field trips.
  • Scouts must bring their own blue card(s) to class.
  • Scouts should bring a lunch that does not require refrigeration or heating.
  • Parents are not allowed in the classroom.
  • Advance registration is required for all scout classes.

Badges & Requirements Offered at The Health Museum 

Citizenship in the Community

A nation is a patchwork of communities that differ from each other and may be governed differently. But regardless of how local communities differ, they all have one point in common: In the United States, local government means self-government. Good citizens help to make decisions about their community through their elected local officials. This class covers all Citizenship in the Community* requirements except 2a, 3, 4b, and 7.

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start this class.

 

Citizenship in the Nation

As Scouts fulfill the requirements for this merit badge, they will learn how to become active citizens are aware of and grateful for their liberties and rights, to participate in their governments and protect their freedom, helping to defend their country and standing up for individual rights on behalf of all its citizens. This class covers all requirements for Citizenship in the Nation* except requirement numbers 2, 3, and 8.

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start this class.

 

Citizenship of the World

We are all citizens of the world. Scouts can find out what it takes to be a good citizen of the world while learning more about different countries around the world. All requirements for the Citizenship In the World* badge will be covered in this class.

 

Communication

This badge gives participants the ability to learn more about effective communication skills. Communications prepares the participant to deliver their message across various cultures, contexts and media.This class covers all Communications* requirements except requirements 5, 7 and 8.

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start this class.

 

Cooking

During this class all Scouts will learn the importance of cooking procedures. As a day to day self reliant routine we must eat. It all starts with the purchase, handling, storage and of course preparation of these items. They will also learn of all food-related illnesses and prevention. The following requirements must be covered outside of class #4, #5, and #6.

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start this class.

*All scouts attending merit badge classes must be in Class A uniforms, with no exceptions granted. Scouts that fail to come to class in proper attire will not be allowed to remain in class and there will be no refunds provided.

 

Dentistry

Ever heard of a scaler? Want to learn the difference between orthodontics and periodontics? In Dentistry, scouts will learn about the history of this distinct field of medicine, view x-rays and more during this merit badge class. This class covers all requirements (except req. 3) for the Dentistry Merit Badge.*

 

Emergency Preparedness

Learn about precautions that should be taken to prevent a variety of emergency situations and techniques that can be used to deal with them, should they occur. This class covers and/or provides scouts with the means to complete all of the requirements for the Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge* except for the First Aid merit badge requirements along with 7b, 8b and 9.

 

Environmental Science

Learn about ecology, pollution, the greenhouse effect and more plus perform experiments that are hands on, interactive and fun! All requirements for this merit badge will be covered in class except 3g and #4.

 

Family Life

The family is the basic unit of society and is important to both individuals and communities. The world is rapidly changing, making today's society much more complex than ever before. As Scouts earn this merit badge, they will realize why it is important to know more about family life and how to strengthen their families. All requirements are covered for this badge except 3, 4, and 5.

First Aid

Do you know first aid? You should! Learn basic and potentially life-saving techniques, including CPR, in this class. This class covers all of the requirements for the First Aid Merit Badge* except requirement 1.

 

Lifesaving

No Boy Scout will ignore a plea for help. However, the desire to help is of little use unless one knows how to give the proper aid. The main purpose of the Lifesaving merit badge is to prepare Scouts to assist those involved in water accidents, teaching them the basic knowledge of rescue techniques, the skills to perform them, and the judgment to know when and how to act so that they can be prepared for emergencies. This class covers all requirements except requirement 1.

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start this class.

Medicine

Do you know what an opthalmoscope, otoscope, and stethoscope are? Are you interested in learning about careers in the medical field? Learn about some of the greatest people in the history of medicine and design an advertising campaign in the Medicine merit badge class. This class covers all of the requirements for the Medicine Merit Badge except requirement 10.*

 

Personal Fitness

How fit are you? Discover the importance of good nutrition and discover what being healthy really means. This class covers requirements 2, 3, 4, 5 and 9. This class does not cover requirements 1, 6, 7 and 8. Proof of completion of requirement 1 must be brought to class to begin this class.

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start the Personal Fitness Merit Badge*.

 

Personal Management

Personal management is about mapping a plan for your life that will involve setting short-range and long-range goals and investigating different ways to reach those goals. Education, training, and experience all help make your goals become a reality. To achieve your goals, you will choose the best path and make a commitment to it, while remaining flexible enough to deal with changes and new opportunities. This class covers all requirements for Personal Management* except requirements 2a, 8a-d. 

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start this class.

 

Public Health

This class covers all requirements for public health except requirements 5 & 7.

 

Swimming

Swimming is a leisure activity, a competitive sport, and a basic survival skill. Scouts who earn this badge will learn about safety when swimming and diving, how swimming can contribute to overall fitness and health, and gain some basic competitive swimming skills.

All scouts registering for this class are required to bring a blue card with their unit leader's signature to start this class.

 

Veterinary Medicine

The class covers all requirements for veterinary medicine except requirement 6.
